I bit my nails for basically forever, until last year. I did start wearing fake nails, I wore them for a few months straight and wouldn't go anywhere without them. It did seriously weaken my nails, but it showed me how pretty my nails could look if they were long and how useful they were! Then after my nails got pretty long, I got into nail art and haven't bit my nails since.
Thats great! I know fake nails are a great way to suppress nail biting, although you’re right - it does weaken the nail. However, using a daily cuticle cream/butter has alot more benefits than anyone would assume. It helps keep the nails healthy and strong!
I have on acrylics right now for my upcoming wedding and every night before bed i use LUSH Lemony Flutter cuticle butter. Im hoping after the wedding when the nail grows out and i remove the acrylics, my natural nails wont be so weak and sore.
First off, awesome blog :D I love it! I love all the gorgeous nails and paints and patterns <3
Second, could you give me advice on how to stop biting my nails? As, your blog inspired me to stop, and for a while I did until I got uber stressed and well, bye bye nails. But I really really want long lovely nails but... I just don't know how to keep them long! lol
I, myself, dont have an issue with nail biting but my Mom does. She also gets stressed, and bites them. My only suggestion is if youve tried the usual stuff (stop-biting nail treatments from beauty supply stores that you paint onto nails, doing frequent manicures so you’re more likely to not bite since u dont wanna ruin your manicure, etc) then i would say its time to give Acrylics a try. Its basically impossible to bite and what not with acrylics, and while they’re on it gives your nails time to grow, and maybe time for you to find a new stress relieving technique to shift yourself way from biting.
I would also suggest going here and reading this article. Hope this helps.
*To the rest of my followers: if you have tips or tricks because you’re a nail biter, or have recently stopped please feel free to let us in on your secrets!
i want to start doing my own nails because i cant afford to get them done professionally any more. i'd like to use my own nails (they're really long) and i don't want to use nail stickers or fake nails.
do you have any recommendations of nail polish brands; what care tools to have; colours to match skintones; simple nail art i could try?
i'm a total noob when it comes to nails!
thank you in advance x
When i first started doing my own nails here was my start kit..
Striping brushes in various lengths
A detailing brush and dotter tool
Angled eyeliner brush (for post-mani clean up, it works MUCH better than qtips)
INM Out The Door Topcoat
Essie’s Matte About You topcoat
Your fav. basecoat or ridge filler
Large bottle of non-acetone polish remover
Finger nail clippers and file
Liquid cuticle remover, and orangewood or rosewood sticks
Cuticle cream or butter
It seems like alot but most are stuff alot of people already have around the house. If not, they are cheap to go buy, especially at beauty supply stores or drugstores
My favorite polish brands are Essie, China Glaze, OPI, Misa, and Orly. They are much cheaper if u buy them online, instead of in stores. Transdesign.com and 8ty8beauty.com are great sites, but Amazon.com and eBay.com offer some as well.
